Maine judge imposes maximum sentence for stalking
"A federal judge Thursday rejected recommendations from a prosecutor and defense attorney and sentenced a former Maine man to five years in federal prison, the maximum term of imprisonment for stalking. Donald Cain, 49, of Henderson, Nevada — formerly of Conroe, Texas, Columbia, South Carolina and Calais — pleaded guilty to the charge on Jan. 11 in U.S. District Court in Bangor in the same courtroom where he was sentenced, according to the court's electronic case filing system. In imposing the sentence, U.S. District Judge John Woodcock described Cain's conduct as "utterly reprehensible," according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office. The judge said it constituted a "psychological assault" and that he had "never before seen a stalking crime of such length, intensity, vulgarity, scope, sophistication and impact.""
