GRAND ISLAND (AP) — A central Nebraska woman was arrested for felony child abuse after forgetting her 8-month-old daughter in a locked pickup truck while she was shopping.

A customer heard a baby crying Saturday afternoon in a pickup at the WalMart parking lot.

The customer unsuccessfully tried to get the girl out of the locked vehicle.

The high temperature in Grand Island Saturday was 99 degrees.

Authorities were called and removed the child to a Grand Island hospital, where she was treated and released.

Shortly after the mother came out of the store with her other three daughters and fainted when she saw police around her pickup truck.

She later told authorities that forgot her infant daughter was in the pickup truck.

All four daughters were taken into protective custody. She is free after posting bond.
