Brentwood Man Held in '90 Molestation

BRENTWOOD — San Jose police arrested a former youth minister at his Brentwood home Wednesday on suspicion of molesting a 13-year-old boy more than a decade ago.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney's office filed charges against 37-year-old Pablo Boas after the victim, now 25 and living in Oregon, called police last month and said he was molested in 1990 while attending the Jubilee Christian Center's school.
"The victim was a student at the school. He was actually enrolled in the gifted and talented program at the time," San Jose police Sgt. Steve Dixon said.
"But when you look at the time line of when (the alleged molestation) occurred, you see he began a downward spiral and never recovered."
The victim dropped out of high school, Dixon said, and phoned police because he's trying to get his life back in order.
In the 1990s, Boas was at the center of a high-profile molestation case involving incidents at the 6,000-member center.
He and fellow minister David Brimmer were arrested in 1992 on suspicion of molesting several students at the school between 1988 and 1993 and were convicted in 1995. The two were roommates at the time.
Brimmer is still serving his 19-year state prison sentence, police said. Boas moved to Livermore after his parole in 1998 and recently moved to Brentwood, San Jose police detective Eric Dragoo said.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office issued a $250,000 arrest warrant for Boas. He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose after Wednesday's arrest at his Maplewood Court home.
The victim told police that Boas invited him into an office at the school several times and assaulted him. One alleged assault occurred at the suspect's former Milpitas home, police said.
The Times does not name alleged victims of sex crimes.
The victim told police he knew about the criminal case in the 1990s but was too embarrassed to come forward then.
